The Greene County football team will be taking the field again soon, with a scrimmage this Friday at home against Ogden.

This will be Coach Caden Duncan’s fifth season with the team, having a record of 32-9. With 26 returning letter winners, the Rams look to have a strong season.

“We were 8-2 last year and won our second consecutive district championship. We overcame a lot of obstacles and adversity, and still found a way to be undefeated in our district,” commented Duncan.

Captains for the 2023 team are Cody Allen, Noah Cornell, Gabe Ebersole and Jack Hansen. Cornell and Nathan Behne are returning All-State players.

“We have some sophomores that will be competing for varsity positions and will definitely see the field a lot in some capacity,” added Duncan, naming Adam Bills, Chris Daugherty, Keegan Lawrence, Nick Madsen and Broc Stream.

The team’s experience, size and speed will be strengths this season, helping to compete for another district championship, with hopes of a run in the playoffs.

“Our district is pretty strong overall but we always expect to compete for a district championship. Carroll Kuemper is a top 10 caliber team in Class 2A and has some very talented players,” said Duncan, going on to say Southeast Valley has a good tradition and was the 2021 state champion.

“Both Roland-Story and Des Moines Christian were playoff teams last year and have some great athletes. Then you have Saydel dropping down a class from being 3A the last few years.”

The Rams’ schedule can be found at www.gobound.com/ia/schools/greenecounty. Tickets for the games can be purchased through the Bound website as well or at the high school office during regular school hours; no cash will be accepted for entry at the gate.
